I just wanted to take this opportunity to let those of you who don't know what a turning lane is or what it is used for, to be officially educated (not that those of you who need the lesson are readers of this blog, but whatever...)
A turning lane is the lane you get in when you want to turn left. It's that big space you sometimes see between the yellow lanes of the road. Your entire car can fit in this lane, not just your front left tire. Miraculously enough, you can also slow down in this lane before taking said left turn. This prevents those of us who actually like to do the speed limit from having to travel at an even slower turtle-speed behind you. It's the beauty of the turning lane living life to it's fullest. It wants you to slow down while you're in it, and not a second before.
And while I'm on the topic of driving, let me also take this opportunity to let you know that when the power goes out and there are no traffic lights to follow, you're supposed to treat it like a four way stop sign. Thus, everyone gets a turn. It is not an invitation to turn on your brights and barrel through the intersection while shooting dirty looks at the drivers in the cars who had the right of way before you came along, acting like a dumbhead.
Oh, and your front tires go behind the lines at the intersections no matter what the weather is, or if there is power to the lights or not.
Thank you.
I will now step off of the soapbox...

Hey, Montgomery drivers aren't the only bad drivers!!
Oh sorry, I got defensive again.
:-)
Hey! I'm not targeting Montgomery drivers... just the two I happened to be behind today :)
I think we also have to metion here the (billions of) old people (in Florida) that think they have to come to a complete stop before making a RIGHT hand turn. Is it necessary?....
I hope everything (else) is going well for you since being home. Talk to you soon.
Love, Mardee
Yeah Dumbhead.
I would also like to add that driving through a school zone means that you HAVE TO slow down to 15 mph, not CHOOSE TO slow down. Otherwise the car in front of you (that would be me) would have to swerve into a TURNING LANE to avoid having her vehicle become the front bumper of the car driving 55 mph behind her. And as Judy just mentioned, this is also not one of the functional uses of a turning lane!
Love it!!
I'm confused....I thought that the turning lane was for people who are special and have privalges that I or other people do not have. FOR instance...these said people pull out of the McDonalds into the turning lane and then proceed to drive down the turning lane for a half mile at the same speed as the others who are not in the turning lane unitll they reach the Walgreens on the left. And in doing so prevent the "others" ME, from using the turning lane and end up having to also turn around at Walgreens to go back south to the street I was aming to turn on anyway!
